“এই আসনের জন্য দলীয় প্রার্থী হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয়ে আমি গর্বিত। এডিনবরার নর্দানআমার বাড়ি; আমি আমাদের পাড়ার শক্তি জানি, তবে একই সাথে জানি মানুষ কীধরনের বাস্তব চ্যালেঞ্জের মুখোমুখি আবাসন সংকট থেকে শুরু করে প্রয়োজনীয়সেবায় কাটছাঁট পর্যন্ত। আমি দৃঢ়প্রতিজ্ঞ যে আমাদের কমিউনিটির জন্য প্রয়োজনীয়পরিবর্তন আনব।”

 

তিনি আরও বলেন-

“আমি আন্তরিকভাবে ধন্যবাদ জানাতে চাই লেবার পার্টির সদস্যদের, CWU, ASLEF, কো-অপারেটিভ পার্টি এবং সকলকে, যারা আমার প্রতি আস্থা রেখেছেন ও সমর্থনকরেছেন। আমি তাদের জন্য শক্তিশালী কণ্ঠস্বর হতে এবং এডিনবরার নর্দান আসনেজয়লাভ করতে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করব।”

ফয়ছল চৌধুরী জোর দিয়ে বলেন—

“আমার প্রচারণা হবে সহজপ্রাপ্যতা ও কর্মমুখীতার ভিত্তিতে। আমি সর্বদা যেমন করেছি, তেমনই আমার দরজা বাসিন্দাদের জন্য খোলা রাখব। রাজনীতি মানুষের মধ্যেঐক্য আনবে, বিভাজন নয়; এবং আমরা একসঙ্গে একটি ন্যায্য, শক্তিশালীএডিনবরার নর্দান গড়ে তুলতে পারব।”

Edinburgh’s long-standing equality campaigner and MSP Foysol Choudhury has been chosen as Scottish Labour’s candidate for the newly created Edinburgh Northern constituency in the upcoming Scottish Parliament election, pledging to be “a strong voice for every community, every street, and every resident.”

 

Mr. Choudhury, who has lived in the area for 35 years, attended Drummond High School and began his community activism here as a teenager. Since his election to the Scottish Parliament in 2021, he has established a reputation for addressing inequalities, defending public services, and amplifying the voices of underrepresented groups. His work has spanned key issues including housing, healthcare, education, and community safety.

 

“I am honoured to have been selected to represent the party for this seat,” Choudhury said. “Edinburgh Northern is my home; I know the strengths of our neighbourhoods, but also the real challenges people face, from housing shortages to cuts in essential services. I am determined to deliver the change our communities need.”

 

He added: “I want to sincerely thank Labour members, the CWU, ASLEF, the Co-operative Party, and everyone who has placed their trust in me for their support. I will work tirelessly to be a strong voice for them and to win the Edinburgh Northern seat.”

 

The Edinburgh Northern constituency will be contested for the first time following boundary changes, a moment Choudhury calls “a fresh opportunity to build a strong, direct relationship between residents and their MSP.”

 

“This is such a diverse area of Edinburgh, with communities that bring so much to our city,” he said. “But the cost-of-living crisis, pressures on public services, and rising inequality are holding too many people back. I will fight for investment in housing, fair wages and our local businesses.”

 

Choudhury emphasised his campaign will be rooted in accessibility and action: “I will maintain an open-door policy for constituents, as I always have. Politics should unite people, not divide them; and together, we can build a fairer, stronger Edinburgh Northern.”

Foysol Choudhury completed his primary education at Ramcharan Primary School in Puran Munsif Qtr of Habiganj on the banks of Khowai River. He began to acquire leadership qualities early in his education, which later played a huge role in his political career. After studying in Habiganj Government High School till class 9, his family decided to move to UK.

 

Expatriate life and education in the UK:

 

After coming to the UK, Foysol Choudhury settled in Edinburgh, Scotland. Along with his studies, he joined the family and started catering business. To fulfill the responsibilities of the eldest son and because of his father’s illness, he shouldered the burden of the family business.

 

While studying at the University of Edinburgh, he acquired business and leadership skills, which later laid the foundation for his success in politics. In addition to business success, he devoted himself to the development of the Bangladeshi community in Scotland during his career.

 

Entry into politics:

 

Foysol Hussain Choudhury entered mainstream politics in 2017. He contested the national election as a member of the Labor Party from the Edinburgh South East seat in Scotland. Although he was not elected at the time, it was a major step in politics for him. Due to his dedication and persistence in his cause, he won the 2021 Scottish Parliament election as the Scottish Labor Party candidate from the Lothian region. Through this, he was elected as the first Bangladeshi Member of the Scottish Parliament in the history of Scotland.

 

It was a great achievement and a special moment for Bangladesh. His victory made the Bangladeshi community brighter on the world stage. His political victory made him a fixture in the social and political life of Scotland.

 

Community service and social work:

 

Foysol Choudhury is not only a politician but also a social worker. During his stay in Scotland he was involved in various social and charitable works. During the Scottish independence referendum in 2014, he worked as the coordinator of the “Bangladeshis for Better Together Campaign”. During this time, he played an important role in spreading the message of harmony among the Bangladeshi community.

 

During the Covid-19 pandemic, organized food distribution for poor and disadvantaged ethnic minority families living in Scotland. Associated with the ELREC project in Edinburgh, he participated in food support programs and provided food assistance to needy families. His social work is appreciated locally and internationally.

 

Awarded MBE:

 

In 2004, Foysol Choudhury was conferred the title of MBE (Member of the British Empire) by the HM Queen in recognition of his dedication and sense of responsibility towards the society. It was a major achievement of his life and a formal recognition of his long-standing social service.

 

The award of the MBE established Foysol Choudhury not only as a successful politician, but also as a social worker and leader on the world stage. With this title, he is further respected for his leadership within the Bangladeshi community.

Leadership and initiative:

His wife Mirza Tahmina Foysol Choudhury (Moni) is a supportive and compassionate wife, who has always inspired him. Their two children, Ikram Hussain Choudhury and Madiha Jannath Choudhury, are imitating their father’s qualities of community service and leadership. Madiha also a member of the Scottish Youth Parliament, which expresses the continuity of leadership within the family.

 

Future Plans:

 

Foysol Choudhury’s aim is to strengthen the Bangladeshi community and consolidate their role at the international level. He wants to work to solve the hardships and problems faced by expatriate Bangladeshis. His future plans include bringing people from all walks of life together and working for their welfare.
